The faculty was created in 1998, following the merger of two pre-existing institutes, those of Agronomic and Veterinary Sciences.

The Biology Department was attached in 2000, by ministerial decision.

The Faculty of Agro-veterinary & Biological Sciences is currently located in an independent Block, cohabiting with the University's Pedagogical and Experimental Farm.

In 2006, the Faculty had 9 professors, 14 lecturers, 113 assistant professors and lecturers. The latter are in the process of finalising their PhDs.

The teaching staff trains some 4000 students each year in the different specialities, including 700 graduating engineers. The majority of the graduates are of Algerian nationality, but the Faculty has a satisfactory number of foreign students (Mali, Guinea, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Tunisia, Morocco, Liberia, etc.).

Like the other faculties, the LMD system started in 2004 with a reduced number of students, reaching 485, and is expected to become widespread in the coming years.

These graduates are mainly absorbed into the local labour market, whether in the agricultural world (agronomists, veterinarians), in the agro-food industry (biologists, agronomists, veterinarians) or the university hospital sector (biologists).

According to the official texts, the faculty of agro-veterinary and biological sciences was officially created within the Saad Dahlab University of Blida by executive decree n°98-253 of 24 Rabie Ethani 1419, corresponding to 17 August 1998 modifying and completing decree n°83-544 of 24 September 1983 on the standard status of the university.

The Faculty of Agro-veterinary and Biological Sciences has been officially divided into two structures, the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences and the Institute of Veterinary Sciences within Blida 1 University.

by the executive decree n°03-279 of 24 Joumada Ethania 1424 corresponding to August 23rd 2003, modified and completed, above mentioned, the number and vocation of the faculties and institutes composing the University of Blida 1.
